LMS Management Development Programme 2008
5-8 October
Milton Hill Hotel, Oxfordshire

CPD Hours: 25.5

Managing a law firm is not getting any easier. The business environment changes constantly, including those changes arising from the credit crunch and the Legal Services Act 2007. These come on top of the ever present challenges of acquiring and satisfying clients, recruiting and retaining staff and improving financial performance. All this puts responsive and consistent management and leadership at the top of the agenda. It is more important than ever to ensure that you have the right level of management expertise to succeed.

The LMS Management Development Programme 2008 is a four-day residential course on law firm management. It is designed to help managing partners, partners (equity or salaried), directors and those involved at a senior law firm management level to manage and lead their firms to continuing business success. Combining the best in modern management thinking and practice, the LMS Management Development Programme 2008 will use a mix of short presentations, realistic case studies, facilitated discussions, practical exercises and individual attention. To ensure the best possible learning environment, numbers are limited to 30 delegates and sell out well in advance.

Don’t just take our word for it

“…It should be required attendance for most senior managers / partners and gives a useful insight into other firms’ issues and methods … It shows you are not alone!”

“…An excellent balance of academic analysis and practical help.”

“…Very good and well balanced course detail. This is a very worthwhile course with informative and proactive speakers. It represents good value for money.”

“… An eye-opening, educational and enjoyable course … It has prepared me for moving forward with many current issues in the practice.”

“I thought the delivery hit exactly the right note and got better through the programme as we all got to know each other.”

E-disclosure – the rules, the practice and the benefits
through Wednesday, 9 July
various locations

CPD Hours: 2

Exlcusive sponsors:

Legal Ince

Millnet

The courts are adopting a more rigorous approach to disclosure under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) part 31. Disclosure increasingly means electronic disclosure, so the subject sits at the crossroads of two technical subjects – the rules and the technology.

Litigation solicitors need to understand the relationship between these two subjects. The rules require discussion between parties at an early stage, and the court cannot fulfill its duty to meet the overriding objective without an informed picture from the parties.

Properly used, the rules are an aid to efficient case management to the benefit of court, practitioners and clients.

Why attend?

Understand the new expectations from the courts as to disclosure, the problems inherent in electronic document collections of whatever size, and the solutions which exist to help with them.

The session will include:

  • the formal disclosure obligations as applied to electronic documents;
  • documents and the Practice Direction to CPR part 31;
  • the management and discretionary powers of the Court;
  • the Case Management Conference – preparation and tactics;
  • the resources, tools and services to help with e-disclosure;
  • the professional implications – the scope of the duty and risk management factors;
  • data exchange; and
  • future developments, including the wide potential impact of the Commercial Court recommendations.
Who should attend?

Litigation practitioners, those responsible for practice development and practice management in law firms; in-house lawyers responsible for litigation readiness and instructing outside lawyers.

Speaker:

Chris Dale is a consultant working with lawyers and with suppliers on e-disclosure projects. His primary focus is on training and education aimed at raising awareness of the time and costs savings e-disclosure brings, the commercial and tactical advantages of being ready for litigation, and what should be done in anticipation of disputes. He led a training session for judges responsible for the management of cases as the first phase in a new project to bring a consistent message to everyone – corporate clients, lawyers, suppliers and judges – involved at any stage in the handling of disclosure information. He writes and talks widely on the subject. His website and blog are the primary source of objective information on e-disclosure in the UK.
